YES WE CAN

It doesn't matter who you are or what your politics are. This is America, and we are one in our patriotism and our pursuit of liberty. Even if you don't like the man, you have to admit that President-Elect Obama is an eloquent speaker. In case you haven't seen it already, here is his victory speech from last night. I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning watching all the coverage, and I have to admit, I had tears in my eyes from this speech. God Bless America!

I had not seen this speech, I was sleeping at the time. Thanks for posting it. He talked about the American Dream, what does that mean to you?

Sean, I don't do too much blog reading so take the following comment with a grain of salt. Your blog is boring. You do a lot of documenting of facts and touch on events that would be interesting but, you stop short of the mark. If you would just go on to describe how you feel or think about things it would make for much more interesting posts and comments. For example, in this post about the victory speach you mentioned a tear in your eye. Was that because you voted for McCain or were you touched by Obama's message and why? Another example was in your post about voting. You said you researched your options. It would have been stimulating to read about your findings and conclusions. We all know that you are of age and are not a convicted felon.
I hope you understand that I'm not trying to be mean. I just would love to read more about YOU and not just stuff that happens to you.

A tear in your eye? Are you kidding me? Kathy and I were dropping off the ballots after the polls closed and we could only listen in the car to the speech, we both were holding in the tears of JOY! Later alone in my room I watched the entire speech online and did not hold anything in, I weeped openly with RELIEF that this regime of the last 8 years is finally over.

BTW, I am not sure who Tracy is, we are probably related, but I home she takes this with a grain of salt as well. Sean, you are not boring in the least. We have all enjoyed reading your posts about your classes and your outings. I know your blog was always one of my moms favorites.

I'm guessing this is cousin Tracy commenting??? If it is someone else, just let me know...

At any rate, don't worry, I'm not taking your comments as mean. I will admit, at first when I read your comment, I was a bit taken aback. But, I do tend to take things personally, and after reading it again and thinking, "what is really being said here?" I came to a different conclusion. You are just challenging me to be a better blogger, and I can appreciate that.

I guess maybe I just didn't want to put a more personal or opinioned angle in my blogs because I know that people will not agree with me?? I don't know.

But at any rate, thanks for commenting. I hope you will continue to read my blog, and I will try my darndest to make it interesting for you and everyone else!

One more thing to you and Grandpa, when I have a little more time, I'll answer the questions you posed...

Sean,
Yes! Cousin Tracy. That is exactly what I meant. I don't really have the opportunity to get to know you in real life so the blog is the only connection or window we have. I just want know more about you. Of course not everyone is going to agree with you all the time. BUT,you are lucky in that respect because you have a really good mix of people reading your blog. You will get some challenges and some support. Thats a good thing. Said with Love.

OK, I watched the speech.

Where was the part that brought tears? Maybe you all should stop eating jalapenos and cutting onions while watching stuff like that. :-)

I just read Tim's post and couldn't stop laughing. I will admit that the tear portion escaped me.

Some people have said that McCain's consession speech was great, one of his best. Of course they are Liberals.

If speaking eloquently were the only criteria for president we will certainly have one of the best. However, what about the issues??

Unfortunately many of the people who voted for Obama don't know him or what his position is on most issues only that he is an eloquent speaker! These people tend to get their political information from David Letterman and Saturday Night Live. All these shows do is level cheap political shots at any non-liberal just to get ratings and the gullible believe they are facts. Even the liberal media admits now that they do not know Obama!

Those of us who balance their information sources still know very little about Obama but what we do know is that he is a liberal extremist with anti-American, racist friends. Mark my words, he is incapable of "uniting America". His first political appointment of Rahm Emanuel (a foul mouthed liberal extremist)as his chief of staff is emblematic of what we can expect from Obama. Unfortunately, McCain was also a deeply flawed candidate who did not deserve my vote either.

Okay all you libs, sock it to me!!

John, I fully agree with you. Neither deserved a vote, but as our American duty we did. Obamas choices for his cabinet has truly started out on the wrong foot. Emanuel IS a foul mouthed person and crooked. Oh well, the young voters I'm sure gave no thought to any of the issues. I do not think kids should vote until they own a piece of property. This country is falling apart.

Well Grandma, the country was falling apart long before Obama was elected. And speaking as one of those "young voters" to which you referred, I actually did take into account the issues. The economy was a big one; I am in a position where a bad economy hurts me the most. I am a college student paying an insanely high amount in tuition, no matter where I choose to go to school. Not to mention the fact that a failing economy will not allow me to easily find a job once I graduate. In the old days, college graduates were practically given jobs after graduation. Now more and more of these highly educated people end up with nothing or merely minimum wage stuff. Is this progress? I can't think of one good thing that has come out of the Bush presidency regarding the economy. If someone wants to enlighten me, feel free.

As to the notion that voters should own property to vote, that is a ludicrous idea. I mean no disrespect when I say that, it's just that ideas like that were predominating in our culture some 100 years ago...maybe a little less if my American history is correct. The fact of the matter is, the voters have spoken. The majority of the country (about 54% the last time I checked) voted for Obama, so no matter how you look at it, he is our president, and we will gladly support him and live with our choice for the next four years.
